Biking Routes in the Brecon Beacons
After the Welsh victory at last year’s Tour De France we’ve been filled with both admiration and inspiration for our great country and indeed the talent it produces. There’s always a host of exciting things to do in the Brecon Beacons, with this in mind we’ve put together some of our favourite cycling routes – introducing Tour De Brecon.
About Tour De Brecon
Tour De France began in 1904 and has been growing in popularity ever since. It is now a globally-recognised event, inviting people from around the world to participate in the 23 day tour. This led us to question; if France can host such a successful event in their beautiful country then why can’t Wales in ours? We’ve tried to make our tours a little more accessible – offering a variety of different routes so you can pick and choose what suits you and when. And don’t worry, you’re not bound to a 23 day contract in the Brecon Beacons.
Usk Reservoir Trail - 8km
Follow the circular trail around the beautiful River Usk. Well laid forestry tracks and tarmac paths provide the foundations for a smooth and scenic ride around the waterside and the fantastic Glasfynydd Forest. It’s really the perfect option if you are looking for a steady cycle with an amazing backdrop. With grand mountains to be admired at every stop, this one is the perfect excursion for family and friends.
Talsarn to Sennybridge - 17km
Offering expansive, open views – Talsarn to Sennybridge is another scenic route with plenty of fascinating pit stops to make on your journey. From admiring fields to stopping off and viewing the Roman Camp and then passing through forestland, there is a whole host of sights to be admired. This one is perfect if you like to have an interest point or two on your adventures. However, it is worth noting that this particular track isn’t family friendly!
Brecon to Brynich Lock - 4km
Suitable for all ages, this one is great for family days-out. This accessible route leads you round a canal towpath – as well as being a flat and smooth surface this option is made even more user-friendly as the route sticks to the the canal-side. Best reserved for the warmer months, there is a lovely picnic spot at the end of your journey – a great way to pat yourself on the back after it all. Better still, if you are a boat fanatic then you will be pleased to hear that there is a working lock to be admired on your journey.
