London Metro Review the Nantyffin - February 2007
How do I love thee? Let me count the foodie ways. Number one: I will feed you only the hand-reared, the locally sourced, the seasonally grown, the organically farmed.
Number two: I will always tell you if you have spinach stuck in your teeth. Number three: I will think very carefully before taking you out for dinner on Valentine's Day...click here to read the full story
Nantyffin, South Wales – The Times verdict – one of the Top ten Restaurants in the UK for wine - February 2007
The Nantyffin Cidermill Inn at Crickhowell was recognised by the ‘Times Knowledge’ magazine last weekend, when it was selected as one of ‘The Top 10 restaurants in the UK for its Wine Menu’.
The Times Knowledge review said:
“Here French and Italian techniques meet Welsh produce with satisfying results….Most of the wines are below £20.00 and there’s an excellent choice of half bottles balanced by unusual heavyweights such as a 1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia…. “
Sean has made it a personal mission to focus as much attention to his wine list as he does researching and creating his food menu. Having previously won many accolades for the consistency and quality of his food; the knowledgeable and adventurous wine list is now also gaining high praise.
“I have always felt that as a leading restaurant in the area, founded on how we source prepare and cook our food, the dining experience should not stop there. To me wine with a meal is as important as the freshest produce and the correct amount of seasoning. Get it wrong and at its best, its average, get it right and the harmonious balance of food and wine is a wonderful, total experience”.

BBC
filming at The Nantyffin Cider Mill Inn
5.1.05
The BBC has recently completed filming at the Nantyffinn Cider
Mill Inn, at Crickhowell, for their ‘I Love Wales’
series. Each week, the programme highlights a different aspect
of life in Wales.
This particular programme features the best restaurants in South
Wales and the producers chose The Nantyffin Cider Mill Inn restaurant
because of its long-standing history as one of the original and
best Gastro pubs in the area. For over a decade, the Nantyffin
has enjoyed a reputation for creating some of the best modern
and traditional food in Wales. The Nantyffin has the rare ability
of being able to supply virtually all of its meat and poultry
from its own nearby farm. Filming followed a typical day in the
life of Chef and owner Sean Gerrard.
Filming began with Gerrard seeing in the daily delivery of the
produce into the kitchens, discussing how he checks and examines
all deliveries, and then constructs menus that best compliment
each other - allowing the quality and flavour of the main ingredients
to come through. It also included comments and discussions with
customers dining at the Nantyffin on that particular day.
The programme also focussed on the 100 acres of its own traditional
hill Farm and the free-ranging and natural environments of all
of their stock. Filming ended with Gerrard visiting the farm to
discuss the future requirements of the restaurant and the next
produce that would be coming on-line. This enables not only total
quality and rearing control over the produce used in its restaurant,
but also the fact that much of their menu has travelled no more
than 7 Miles from farm-to-plate. A genuine rarity in this day
and age.
Following and observing Sean’s typical day, highlighted
his passion for the quality of the produce, the enjoyment that
he wants each and every customer to have when eating his food
and a genuine care for the rearing and life of the animals that
his restaurant use.
The whole day’s filming gave a great insight as to why the
Nantyffin is such a popular destination for lovers of quality,
consistency and passion in food and cooking and that is why it
will continue to be a favourite of both locals and travellers
from afar.
Peterstone Court – Voted
One of the Top Ten Romantic Wedding Locations in the UK by
Tiara Magazine
Peterstone Court Hotel has been voted
by ‘Tiara’ - the Cardiff based weddings specialist
magazine - as the number one Wedding venue in the UK for Georgian
Splendour.
In a recent survey of the Top Ten Wedding venues
in the UK, with categories ranging from City Chic to Gastro to
Glamour to Cornish Charm, Peterstone Court headed the Splendour
category as the ideal location for a Georgian wedding venue. Quoted
by Tiara as ‘one of the most delightfully situated civil
ceremony venues we’ve come across’, Peterstone Court
offers the happy ‘couple-to-be’ the complete venue
for a romantic wedding.
Tiara wrote -‘From in-house toast Master to their talented
florist, not to mention the top-class Bistro,
the facilities and Wedding services on offer at Peterstone Court,
allow you to sit back, relax and
simply enjoy your Big Day at one of the mostluxurious venues in
South Wales.’ – high praise for a
venue that has been a number one choice for many over the years.
With it’s superb location on the edge of the Brecon Beacon
National Park, overlooking the River Usk, it is a magnificent
Georgian manor house equipped with top-class facilities that will
guarantee the perfect day. “Great architecture, sumptuous
décor, friendly and attentive staff, wonderful food and
rooms to die for “ said happy bride, Tracy Eastop, “we
had just the most perfect Wedding – thank you so much Peterstone
Court!” Director, Glyn Brigdeman said, “We have worked
hard to create the service and attention to detail that a venue
such as this deserves. The building is just so flexible - we can
cater for everything from small intimate affairs to larger family
events for 130 people plus. On the larger weddings, when all the
bedrooms are taken the hotel takes on such a lovely family feeling
– we’re told it’s like borrowing someone’s
wonderful Country Estate! “Being ranked along-side ‘Dover
Castle’ in Kent, ‘Le Manoir’ at Oxford and ‘Morgans’
in Swansea as one of the Top Ten Venues In the UK makes all the
effort worthwhile.”
